Guidebook events in Taos & Red River this week | Santa Fe New Mexican article

and the Guidebook is the #1 New Release in Mountain U.S. Regional Travel on Amazon

Greetings to all the new subscribers!

TL;DR version of this newsletter:

  • Guidebook event this week in Taos at Taos Mountain Outfitters on Thursday, May 22, at 4 pm. 113 N Plaza, Taos, NM 87571. Short presentation plus an extended Q&A.

  • Guidebook event this week in Red River at Taos Mountain Outfitters Red River location, Friday, May 23 at 4 pm. 121 E Main Street, Red River, NM 87558. Short presentation plus an extended Q&A.

  • The Santa Fe New Mexican article is live! It’s here. “Local writer's new Santa Fe to Taos thru-hike guide book details a 132-mile alpine adventure”. Huge thanks to Matt Dahlseid, the author, for writing such a nice article. And for all his other hiking articles.

In other news:

  • I’m sending an “early” edition just to notify all of you in the Taos area about the book events. So I’ll skip this coming Sunday’s email, rather than risking overmailing.

  • Guidebook event next Saturday, May 31st at 5 pm at Travel Bug in Santa Fe. Short presentation plus an extended Q&A.

  • I survived my Wilderness First Responder recertification. Again. Just got back from it yesterday. Did okay in the scenarios; got a 98% on my exam. Got to do the recert with Carl Gilmore and his excellent crew of instructors at the Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, NM.

  • Project “Lead guided hikes” continues. Finalizing the insurance for that later today…

  • The guidebook is the #1 New Release in Mountain U.S. Regional Travel on Amazon. (Those rankings change hourly, but it was there this morning.)

  • Huge thanks to everyone who has bought the book through the Santa Fe to Taos website. I am working on getting the books to you all a little bit faster than the current setup is promising. Stay tuned on that.

  • More SF2T merch is forthcoming. I finally got Printful and WooCommerce and my hosting company to work together, so I will soon be offering tshirts, totebags, socks… you name it… with SF2T designs.

  • I have not forgotten you, beta readers: Look for your copy of the guidebook in the mail. And an extra gift.

  • Recently someone asked about “live” events for the thru-hike — something like a monthly in-person meeting. This is intriguing. I am scouting possible places to do this. The SF2T resupply storage locker in Tres Ritos is big enough to fit us (it’s 12 × 24’), but maybe other places would be better. Please reply back to this email if you’re interested in an in-person meeting, or if you have an idea for where it could be held.

  • Look for a piece about the guidebook and the thru-hike in the Taos News soon. I gave them a copy of the guidebook and they asked for a high-res image of the cover, and they liked the guidebook, so it’s looking like they’ll maybe do at least a small piece on it.

That’s all for now. Look for some trail conditions updates in the next newsletter.

Cheers,
Pam Neely

PS: Just a shout out to Los Rios River Runners, for being the sole advertiser for the guidebook. They have many different trips, and they rent gear, too.
